 Preparation and Storage    Upon receipt, the lyophilized protein is stable at room temperature for 1 month. After reconsituted, the undiluted solution is stable at 4 degree C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein and store in working aliquots at -20 degree C to -80 degree C. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
 Other Notes for GDF11 recombinant protein    Small volumes of GDF11 recombinant protein may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice.

   Purified recombinant Human GDF11 protein
GDF-11 is a myostatin-homologous protein that acts as an inhibitor of nerve tissue growth. GDF-11 has been shown to suppress neurogenesis through a myostatin-like pathway, which involves arrest of progenitor cell-cycle in the G1 phase. Similarities between myostatin and GDF-11, which are 90% identical in their amino acid sequence, suggests that the regulatory mechanisms responsible for maintaining proper tissue size during neural and muscular development might be the same.

 NCBI Summary for GDF11    The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) family and the TGF-beta superfamily. This group of proteins is characterized by a polybasic proteolytic processing site which is cleaved to produce a mature protein containing seven conserved cysteine residues. The members of this family are regulators of cell growth and differentiation in both embryonic and adult tissues. Studies in mice and Xenopus suggest that this protein is involved in mesodermal formation and neurogenesis during embryonic development. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
