Product Description specifically for ELA1 elisa kit

   Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for ELA1 has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any ELA1 present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for ELA1 is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of ELA1 bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

 NCBI Summary for ELA1    Elastases form a subfamily of serine proteases that hydrolyze many proteins in addition to elastin. Humans have six elastase genes which encode the structurally similar proteins elastase 1, 2, 2A, 2B, 3A, and 3B. Unlike other elastases, pancreatic elastase 1 is not expressed in the pancreas. To date, elastase 1 expression has only been detected in skin keratinocytes. Clinical literature that describes human elastase 1 activity in the pancreas or fecal material is actually referring to chymotrypsin-like elastase family, member 3B. [provided by RefSeq, May 2009]
