The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing AKAP1. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS071517 kit is based on AKAP1 antibody-AKAP1 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect AKAP1 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, AKAP1. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. The A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are a group of structurally diverse proteins, which have the common function of binding to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA) and confining the holoenzyme to discrete locations within the cell. This gene encodes a member of the AKAP family. The encoded protein binds to type I and type II regulatory subunits of PKA and anchors them to the mitochondrion. This protein is speculated to be involved in the cAMP-dependent signal transduction pathway and in directing RNA to a specific cellular compartment. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

AKAP149 is also expressed in colon carcinoma. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
