Biological Significance
Native human C7 is a naturally glycosylated protein composed of a single polypeptide chain of 92,400 Da. C7 is essential for formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC) and is activated non-proteolytically by binding to recently-formed C5b,C6 complexes at the cell membrane. Each pathway of complement activation generates proteolytic enzyme complexes (C3/C5 convertases) which are bound to the target surface.
Biohazard Information
Donor samples were tested and found to be negative for HBsAg, HTLV-I/II, STS, and for antibodies to HCV, HIV-1 and HIV-II. Nonetheless caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests.
Dry Ice Shipment
Extra charge fee may add to your shipping cost as dry ice is required to ship this product.
Preparation and Storage
Aliquot and store at -70 degree C or lower. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes
Small volumes of C7 native protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for C7
C7 is a component of the complement system. It participates in the formation of Membrane Attack Complex (MAC). People with C7 deficiency are prone to bacterial infection. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
UniProt Comments for C7
C7: Constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) that plays a key role in the innate and adaptive immune response by forming pores in the plasma membrane of target cells. C7 serves as a membrane anchor. Defects in C7 are a cause of complement component 7 deficiency (C7D). A rare defect of the complement classical pathway associated with susceptibility to severe recurrent infections, predominantly by Neisseria gonorrhoeae or Neisseria meningitidis. Belongs to the complement C6/C7/C8/C9 family.
