NCBI Summary for CYP2B1
phenobarbitol-inducible member of the p450 xenobiotic-inducible superfamily involved in hydroxylation of decanoic and other fatty acids [RGD, Feb 2006]
UniProt Comments for CYP2B1
CYP2B6: cytochrome P450, subfamily IIB. Cytochromes P450 are a group of heme-thiolate monooxygenases. In liver microsomes, this enzyme is involved in an NADPH-dependent electron transport pathway. It oxidizes a variety of structurally unrelated compounds, including steroids, fatty acids, and xenobiotics. Phosphorylation is accompanied by a decrease in enzyme activity.
Protein type: Xenobiotic Metabolism - metabolism by cytochrome P450; Cofactor and Vitamin Metabolism - retinol; Oxidoreductase; EC 1.14.14.1; Xenobiotic Metabolism - drug metabolism - cytochrome P450; Lipid Metabolism - arachidonic acid
Cellular Component: endoplasmic reticulum membrane; intracellular membrane-bound organelle; cytoplasm
Molecular Function: iron ion binding; heme binding; oxidoreductase activity, acting on paired donors, with incorporation or reduction of molecular oxygen, reduced flavin or flavoprotein as one donor, and incorporation of one atom of oxygen; arachidonic acid epoxygenase activity; steroid hydroxylase activity; oxygen binding
Biological Process: xenobiotic metabolic process; exogenous drug catabolic process; epoxygenase P450 pathway
