The sensitivity of this assay, or Lower Limit of Detection (LLD) was defined as the lowest human DBH concentration that could be differentiated from zero. It was determined the mean O.D value of 20 replicates of the zero standard added by their three standard deviations.

Principle of the assay: This assay employs the competitive inhibition enzyme immunoassay technique. The microtiter plate provided in this kit has been pre-coated with goat-anti-rabbit antibody. Standards or samples are added to the appropriate microtiter plate wells with an antibody specific for DBH and Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) conjugated DBH. The competitive inhibition reaction is launched between with HRP labeled DBH and unlabeled DBH with the antibody. A substrate solution is added to the wells and the color develops in opposite to the amount of DBH in the sample. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

The protein encoded by this gene is an oxidoreductase belonging to the copper type II, ascorbate-dependent monooxygenase family. It is present in the synaptic vesicles of postganglionic sympathetic neurons and converts dopamine to norepinephrine. It exists in both soluble and membrane-bound forms, depending on the absence or presence, respectively, of a signal peptide. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
