The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing FMO5. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS9330891 kit is based on FMO5 antibody-FMO5 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect FMO5 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, FMO5. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

Metabolic N-oxidation of the diet-derived amino-trimethylamine (TMA) is mediated by flavin-containing monooxygenase and is subject to an inherited FMO3 polymorphism in man resulting in a small subpopulation with reduced TMA N-oxidation capacity resulting in fish odor syndrome Trimethylaminuria. Three forms of the enzyme, FMO1 found in fetal liver, FMO2 found in adult liver, and FMO3 are encoded by genes clustered in the 1q23-q25 region. Flavin-containing monooxygenases are NADPH-dependent flavoenzymes that catalyzes the oxidation of soft nucleophilic heteroatom centers in drugs, pesticides, and xenobiotics.
