The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing GJA8. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS9329654 kit is based on GJA8 antibody-GJA8 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect GJA8 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, GJA8. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

This gene encodes a transmembrane connexin protein that is necessary for lens growth and maturation of lens fiber cells. The encoded protein is a component of gap junction channels and functions in a calcium and pH-dependent manner. Mutations in this gene have been associated with zonular pulverulent cataracts, nuclear progressive cataracts, and cataract-microcornea syndrome. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2009]
