MBS005916 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Islet Amyloid Polypeptide (IAPP) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing IAPP. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS005916 kit is based on IAPP antibody-IAPP antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect IAPP antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, IAPP. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Islet, or insulinoma, amyloid polypeptide is commonly found in pancreatic islets of patients suffering diabetes mellitus type II, or harboring an insulinoma. While the association of amylin with the development of type II diabetes has been known for some time, a direct causative role for amylin has been harder to establish. Studies suggest that amylin, like the related beta-amyloid (Abeta) associated with Alzheimer's disease, can induce apoptotic cell-death in particular cultured cells, an effect that may be relevant to the development of type II diabetes.
