In developing countries are more prone to scabies infection while globally the disease can reach to almost 130 million individuals in a given time point. Although <span id=\"urn:enhancement-f8ff0a4f-868d-4d80-a7b8-ec03d3dfedb1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"2\">Scabies infection can develop anywhere, mostly in young and old individuals in developing countries, especially with low economic resources are more susceptible to it. Additionally, in presence of hot and tropical climate the rate of infection increases.<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"urn:enhancement-9d476eb5-ce0d-44c7-abf4-cd9db4566d97\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabies<\/span> is formed by a small mite known as <span id=\"urn:enhancement-4c620efd-3264-4c39-b4cb-e7b14ff96dbe\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/sarcoptes-scabiei\">Sarcoptes scabiei<\/span>. These tiny mites can burrow to the <span id=\"urn:enhancement-19176b6d-b153-4a1a-8f42-c4d33c659228\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/epidermis\">epidermis<\/span> or outer skin layer, and eggs are laid by adult females. Within the period, the symptoms such as intense itching start as a result of mite <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3becd4cc-26f1-4656-8563-d0b37b182bd5\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-creative-work\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/proteins\">proteins<\/span> which can be found in feces. However, the application of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-225ba2e0-2117-4344-85b0-978f1c5ead0c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/permethrin\">permethrin<\/span> is not recommended for infants under six months of age. <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b062b092-c895-4eea-a8ab-6642af93213b\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/malathion\">Malathion<\/span> 5% is used within an aqueous base. As a low-cost drug, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-e749c1df-87e3-4e21-8a37-5c8eeb476a39\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/benzyl-benzoate\">benzyl benzoate<\/span> or <span id=\"urn:enhancement-0d907355-81be-4b13-9c6c-64332e60e262\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/sulfur\">sulfur<\/span> ointment is mostly used in developing countries. <span id=\"urn:enhancement-b7647748-16d1-47fe-bdb5-9f182dbd937a\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabicides<\/span> are used in all areas of body covering neck to toe. Whereas in infants and young individuals additional application to head also as there are chances of scabies infection in head, scalp or face. Creams or lotions are applied and after specific time as instructed in the usage, it will be washed off. Although a single application of topical creams is recommended, however, a second dose, which can be applied 3-7 days after the first application is beneficial for the complete eradication. As itching in scabies develops due to hyper-immune sensitivity, scabies symptoms can stay longer or re-appear even after the use of medicines. Addition to cream, now a day, <span id=\"urn:enhancement-d9f95f1c-8086-49cd-89e5-d9ebddbd2a96\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/ivermectin\">ivermectin<\/span> is taken orally, which is also a safe drug in respect to pregnant women and young children more than six years of age. <span id=\"urn:enhancement-2c553595-9535-406f-99e9-9b8e3ec047ce\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/ivermectin\">Ivermectin<\/span> application also shows improvement for as <span id=\"urn:enhancement-aabc1896-f132-4ef8-870a-781b88f19f78\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">crusted scabies<\/span>. In adults, its use of topical <span id=\"urn:enhancement-5094fa57-0d38-459d-af28-9d7fcc8ec57c\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/ivermectin\">Ivermectin<\/span> is only found in the USA, although not approves by FDA. To treat scabies complications like <span id=\"urn:enhancement-3507585f-f4dd-46e2-9d34-245e3b59ff76\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/impetigo\">impetigo<\/span>, antiseptics or antibiotics are used. For complete cure from <span id=\"urn:enhancement-1b3378f5-3b81-4aa4-bdba-17cdfb0af93f\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabies<\/span> infection treatment of all individuals present in the household is also recommended.<\/p>\n<p id=\"4\"><strong>Prevention and control<\/strong><br \/>\nAs scabies can be spread quickly through skin contact, people living or working closely has a higher chance to get the infection. To avoid further spreading of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-45ba1e36-df8c-4ea1-accc-c557d318a507\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabies<\/span> infection some preventive measures can be taken, such as-<br \/>\n\u2022 Washing of clothes and bedding at a higher temperature (more than 50o), at the very first day of the treatment.<br \/>\n\u2022 In a situation, where washing is not possible, storage of cloths is recommended in a separate bag for three days until the death of the mites.<br \/>\n\u2022 Babies and children are required to prohibit from sucking hands, socks or mittens.<br \/>\nIn some countries, management and control of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-6c378fcf-7429-4131-8188-e0cb0577d8e1\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabies<\/span> have been identified as a priority in connection with public health. On a higher level of control measures, IACS or International Alliance for the Control of <span id=\"urn:enhancement-d6536129-c275-4999-a608-e3a972559deb\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabies<\/span> has been formed to work globally to control infection, spreading and reinfection.<\/p>\n<p id=\"5\">In addition to individual control, there is an increasing interest is evolving for the application of MDA or mass drug administration strategy. To rule out the possibility, comparative studies are going on assessing <span id=\"urn:enhancement-23438173-fa20-4c2e-b263-a159ea777eab\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/ivermectin\">ivermectin<\/span> against the use of other topical creams. Further, to provide awareness, programs related to <span id=\"urn:enhancement-23ef210d-f5f1-417e-9cca-6f8f4a86e5fa\" class=\"textannotation disambiguated wl-thing\" itemid=\"https:\/\/data.wordlift.io\/wl1503301\/entity\/scabicides\">Scabies<\/span> infection are getting included in current and on-going public health-related strategies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Table of Contents I.
