Human
Preparation and Storage
Prior to reconstitution store at 4 degree C. After reconstitution store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life: 18 months from date of despatch.
Other Notes
Small volumes of LTF purified protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.
Related Product Information for
LTF purified protein
Human lactoferrin is a 78kDa globular protein found in body secretions such as milk and saliva and is a member of the transferrin family proteins. Transferrins control the level of free iron in the body, by binding and transporting iron. Lactoferrin does not appear to have a transporting function, instead it has antimicrobial activity, by keeping the levels of iron in body fluids low and thus preventing microbes from acquiring iron. Removing free iron from body fluids and inflamed areas also serve to protect against the damaging effects of free radicals. Lactoferrin is used as a therapeutic and prophylactic treatment of various illnesses, such as cancers and intestinal illnesses.

NCBI Summary for LTF
This gene is a member of the transferrin family of genes and its protein product is found in the secondary granules of neutrophils. The protein is a major iron-binding protein in milk and body secretions with an antimicrobial activity, making it an important component of the non-specific immune system. The protein demonstrates a broad spectrum of properties, including regulation of iron homeostasis, host defense against a broad range of microbial infections, anti-inflammatory activity, regulation of cellular growth and differentiation and protection against cancer development and metastasis. Antimicrobial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic activity has been found for this protein and its peptides. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]
UniProt Comments for LTF
LTF: Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. Belongs to the transferrin family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative promoter.
