The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing MBL. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS263508 kit is based on MBL antibody-MBL antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect MBL antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, MBL. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. This gene encodes the soluble mannose-binding lectin or mannose-binding protein found in serum. The protein encoded belongs to the collectin family and is an important element in the innate immune system. The protein recognizes mannose and N-acetylglucosamine on many microorganisms, and is capable of activating the classical complement pathway. Deficiencies of this gene have been associated with susceptibility to autoimmune and infectious diseases. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
