Specificity
This item recognises the carboxy terminus of neurofilament M (NF-M), one of three neurofilament proteins (NF-H, NF-M and NF-L). Neurofilaments are 10nm or intermediate filaments found specifically in neurons, with especially high concentrations along the axons, where they appear to control axonal diameter. It is thought that phosphorylation of NF-M results in the formation of interfilament cross-bridges that are important in the maintenance of axonal calibre.Clone 3H11 has also been determined to bind to a C- terminal epitope of bovine NF-M SEE IMAGE.

Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.
Shelf Life: 18 months from date of despatch.

Small volumes of anti-NEFM antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

Neurofilaments are type IV intermediate filament heteropolymers composed of light, medium, and heavy chains. Neurofilaments comprise the axoskeleton and functionally maintain neuronal caliber. They may also play a role in intracellular transport to axons and dendrites. This gene encodes the medium neurofilament protein. This protein is commonly used as a biomarker of neuronal damage. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
