Biological Significance
Calbindin is a calcium-binding protein belonging to the troponin C superfamily. It was originally described as a 27-kDa protein induced by vitamin D in the duodenum of the chick. In the brain, its synthesis is independent of vitamin-D-derived hormones. Calbindin contains 4 active calcium-binding domains, and 2 modified domains that presumably have lost their calcium-binding capacity.
Immunogen
Calbindin antibody (D28K) was raised in mouse using calbindin D-28k as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C for short term storage. Aliquot and store at -80 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes
Small volumes of anti-CALB1 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for CALB1
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the calcium-binding protein superfamily that includes calmodulin and troponin C. Originally described as a 27 kDa protein, it is now known to be a 28 kDa protein. It contains four active calcium-binding domains, and has two modified domains that are thought to have lost their calcium binding capability. This protein is thought to buffer entry of calcium upon stimulation of glutamate receptors. Depletion of this protein was noted in patients with Huntington disease. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2015]
UniProt Comments for CALB1
CALB1: Buffers cytosolic calcium. May stimulate a membrane Ca(2+)-ATPase and a 3',5'-cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase. Interacts with RANBP9. Belongs to the calbindin family.
