Biological Significance
Interferons (IFNs) are proteins made and released by lymphocytes in response to the presence of pathogens-such as viruses, bacteria, or parasites-or tumor cells. They allow communication between cells to trigger the protective defenses of the immune system that eradicate pathogens or tumors.
One neutralizing unit is defined as the total amount of antibody sufficient for neutralizing one laboratory unit of recombinant rat IFN-gamma (6x106 units approximates to 1mg pure rat IFN-gamma)
IFN gamma antibody was raised in mouse using rat interferon gamma as the immunogen.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C until reconstitution. Following reconstitution aliquot and freeze at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Other Notes
Small volumes of anti-IFN gamma antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for IFN gamma
an immune molecule produced by T lymphocytes in response to mitogens or antigens [RGD, Feb 2006]
UniProt Comments for IFN gamma
Produced by lymphocytes activated by specific antigens or mitogens. IFN-gamma, in addition to having antiviral activity, has important immunoregulatory functions. It is a potent activator of macrophages, it has antiproliferative effects on transformed cells and it can potentiate the antiviral and antitumor effects of the type I interferons.
