The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing MTHFS. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS9341493 kit is based on MTHFS antibody-MTHFS antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect MTHFS antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, MTHFS. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

The protein encoded by this gene is an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 5-formyltetrahydrofolate to 5,10-methenyltetrahydrofolate, a precursor of reduced folates involved in 1-carbon metabolism. An increased activity of the encoded protein can result in an increased folate turnover rate and folate depletion. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2011]
