Biological Significance
Prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), also prostatic specific acid phosphatase (PSAP), is an enzyme produced by the prostate. It may be found in increased amounts in men who have prostate cancer or other diseases. The highest levels of acid phosphatase are found in metastasized prostate cancer.
Biohazard Information
Donor samples were tested and found to be negative for  HIV I/II, and HCV antibodies, and Hepatitis B surface antigen. Nonetheless caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests. This product contains sodium azide as preservative. Although the amount of sodium azide is very small appropriate care must be taken when handling this product.

Preparation and Storage
Aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Avoid repeated Freeze/Thaw cycles.

This gene encodes an enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of orthophosphoric monoester to alcohol and orthophosphate. It is synthesized under androgen regulation and is secreted by the epithelial cells of the prostate gland. An alternatively spliced transcript variant encoding a longer isoform has been found for this gene. This isoform contains a transmembrane domain and is localized in the plasma membrane-endosomal-lysosomal pathway. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2008]
