Recognizes bovine Cytokeratin 8,18 of simple type epithelium at ~52.5kD and 45.5kD respectively. Detected all adeno-Ca tested, undifferentiated CA, hepatocellular CA and cervix Ca tumors.
Supplied as a liquid, 0.09% sodium azide.
Cytokeratin 8/18 filaments, reconstituted from purified bovine cytokeratins 8 and 18.
Preparation and Storage
May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Small volumes of anti-KRT8 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

Cytokeratins are a family of water-insoluble intermediate laments, composed of polypeptide chains found in the cytoskeleton of epithelial cells. Twenty different forms of human cytokeratins exist (Moll numbers 1-20) in both normal and malignant epithelial cell lines. Speci c combinations of cytokeratin peptides are associated with certain epithelial cells, and are therefore useful in the characterization of poorly differentiated carcinoma. Cytokeratins may also be clinically signi cant indicators in distinguishing carcinoma from malignant tumors of non-epithelial origin, such as lymphoma, sarcoma, and melanoma. Cytokeratin 8 and 18 staining has also been observed in renal cell carcinomas, hepatocellular carcinomas, cholangiocarcinomas, germ cell tumors and some neuroendocrine carcinomas, epithelioid sarcomas and non-epithelial tumors.

This gene is a member of the type II keratin family clustered on the long arm of chromosome 12. Type I and type II keratins heteropolymerize to form intermediate-sized filaments in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells. The product of this gene typically dimerizes with keratin 18 to form an intermediate filament in simple single-layered epithelial cells. This protein plays a role in maintaining cellular structural integrity and also functions in signal transduction and cellular differentiation. Mutations in this gene cause cryptogenic cirrhosis. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jan 2012]

The keratins are intermediate filament proteins responsible for the structural integrity of epithelial cells and are subdivided into cytokeratins and hair keratins. Phosphorylation of keratins at specific sites affects their organization, assembly dynamics, and their interaction with signaling molecules. Phsophorylated by p38 kinase, regulating cellular keratin filament reorganization. Phosphorylation on serine residues is enhanced during EGF stimulation and mitosis. Mutation of this protein is a risk factor for cryptogenic liver failure.
