Nkx 2.5 is a lineage restricted transcription factor that regulates the expression of heart specific genes. This regulation is essential for tissue differentiation and the determination of temporal and spatial patterns of development. Abundant expression of Nkx 2.5 is observed in the mouse heart from the time of cardiac differentiation through adult life. Targeted disruption of Nkx 2.5 in mice results in early embryonic lethality with cardiac development arrested at the linear tube stage, prior to looping.

Usage Summary: Peptide ELISA: antibody detection limit dilution 1:32000. Western blot: Approx 45kDa band observed in Human Heart lysates (calculated MW of 34.9kDa according to NP_004378.1). The observed molecular weight corresponds to earlier findings in literature with different antibodies (Shiojima et al, Circ Res. 1996 Nov;79(5):920-9.; PMID: 8888684). Recommended concentration: 0.3-1 ug/ml.

This gene encodes a homeobox-containing transcription factor. This transcription factor functions in heart formation and development. Mutations in this gene cause atrial septal defect with atrioventricular conduction defect, and also tetralogy of Fallot, which are both heart malformation diseases. Mutations in this gene can also cause congenital hypothyroidism non-goitrous type 5, a non-autoimmune condition. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
