anti-GAD2 antibody
Description: Rabbit IgG polyclonal antibody for Glutamate decarboxylase 2(GAD2) detection. Tested with WB, IHC-P in Human, Mouse, Rat.
Background: Glutamate decarboxylase or glutamic acid decarboxylase(GAD) is an enzyme that catalyzes the decarboxylation of glutamate to GABA and CO2. GAD65 is the isoform with molecular weight of 65 kDa. Karlsen et al.(1991) mapped the GAD2 gene to chromosome 10p13-p11.2 by in situ hybridization. Bu et al.(1992) isolated a cDNA corresponding to the GAD2 gene from a human brain cDNA library. The deduced 585-amino acid protein has a molecular mass of 65 kD. GAD65 is target of autoantibodies in people who later develop type 1 diabetes mellitus or latent autoimmune diabetes.

NCBI Summary for GAD2
This gene encodes one of several forms of glutamic acid decarboxylase, identified as a major autoantigen in insulin-dependent diabetes. The enzyme encoded is responsible for catalyzing the production of gamma-aminobutyric acid from L-glutamic acid. A pathogenic role for this enzyme has been identified in the human pancreas since it has been identified as an autoantibody and an autoreactive T cell target in insulin-dependent diabetes. This gene may also play a role in the stiff man syndrome. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants that encode the same protein. [provided by RefSeq, Oct 2008]
