NCBI Summary for PTGES2
The protein encoded by this gene is a membrane-associated prostaglandin E synthase, which catalyzes the conversion of prostaglandin H2 to prostaglandin E2. This protein also has been shown to activate the transcription regulated by a gamma-interferon-activated transcription element (GATE). Multiple transcript variants have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2009]
UniProt Comments for PTGES2
PTGES2: Isomerase that catalyzes the conversion of unstable intermediate of prostaglandin E2 H2 (PGH2) into the more stable prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) form. May also have transactivation activity toward IFN-gamma (IFNG), possibly via an interaction with CEBPB; however, the relevance of transcription activation activity remains unclear. Belongs to the GST superfamily.

Protein type: Lipid Metabolism - arachidonic acid; Isomerase; EC 5.3.99.3; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 9q34.11

Cellular Component: Golgi membrane; mitochondrion; perinuclear region of cytoplasm; integral to membrane; cytosol; nucleus

Molecular Function: electron carrier activity; DNA binding; glutathione binding; heme binding; lyase activity; protein disulfide oxidoreductase activity; prostaglandin-E synthase activity

Biological Process: secretion; cell redox homeostasis; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; prostaglandin biosynthetic process
