This item specifically recognises human beta arrestin-2 (ARRB2), a scaffolding protein and member of the arrestin family, highly expressed in the central nervous system, which plays a role in regulating agonist-mediated G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, through receptor desensitization and internalization.

ARRB2 may function in the regulation of synaptic receptors, and in scaffold-linking GPCRs to JNK3, thereby enhancing the GPCR-mediated activation of JNK3, associated with cell apoptosis.

Antiserum to human Beta arrestin-2 was raised by repeated immunisation of goats with highly purified antigen. Purified IgG was prepared by affinity chromatography.

Store at 4 degree C or at -20 degree C if preferred. Storage in frost-free freezers is not recommended. This product should be stored undiluted. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing as this may denature the antibody. Should this product contain a precipitate we recommend microcentrifugation before use.

Members of arrestin/beta-arrestin protein family are thought to participate in agonist-mediated desensitization of G-protein-coupled receptors and cause specific dampening of cellular responses to stimuli such as hormones, neurotransmitters, or sensory signals. Arrestin beta 2, like arrestin beta 1, was shown to inhibit beta-adrenergic receptor function in vitro. It is expressed at high levels in the central nervous system and may play a role in the regulation of synaptic receptors. Besides the brain, a cDNA for arrestin beta 2 was isolated from thyroid gland, and thus it may also be involved in hormone-specific desensitization of TSH receptors. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2012]
