Goats were immunized with rat Alpha 2-Macroglobulin isolated from acute phase rat serum. The resulting antiserum was solid phase absorbed with rat serum lacking alpha 2- macroglobulin until it gave a single band with serum containing the acute phase protein. The specific antibodies were then immunoaffinity purified off an antigen containing immunoabsorbant.
Preparation and Storage
Store at 4 degree C.
Shelf Life: 12 months from shipment date
Other Notes
Small volumes of anti-A2m antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

PZP: Is able to inhibit all four classes of proteinases by a unique 'trapping' mechanism. This protein has a peptide stretch, called the 'bait region' which contains specific cleavage sites for different proteinases. When a proteinase cleaves the bait region, a conformational change is induced in the protein which traps the proteinase. The entrapped enzyme remains active against low molecular weight substrates (activity against high molecular weight substrates is greatly reduced). Following cleavage in the bait region a thioester bond is hydrolyzed and mediates the covalent binding of the protein to the proteinase. Belongs to the protease inhibitor I39 (alpha-2- macroglobulin) family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
