Specificity    Recognizes human butyrylcholinesterase (BtChE). Reacts with BtChE from normal serum when tested in sandwich ELISA using a polyclonal antibody against BtChE as capture antibody, and in crossed immunoelectrophoresis followed by incubation of the gel with this product. No reaction is seen with acetylcholinesterase from human nervous tissue and erythrocytes.
 Purity/Purification    Affinity Purified
Purified by Protein A/G affinity chromatography.
Form/Format    Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.4, 15mM sodium azide.

Preparation and Storage    May be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. For long-term storage, store at -20 degree C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Other Notes    Small volumes of anti-BCHE antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

Product Description specifically for anti-BCHE antibody

Butyrylcholinesterase (BtChE, EC 3.1.1.8.) is synthetizised in the liver, and is predominantly found in serum, liver and pancreas. Butyrylcholinesterase is a tetrameric glycoprotein (molecular mass of 350kD), and consists of four subunits, each with molecular mass of 90kD (1).

NCBI Summary for BCHE    Mutant alleles at the BCHE locus are responsible for suxamethonium sensitivity. Homozygous persons sustain prolonged apnea after administration of the muscle relaxant suxamethonium in connection with surgical anesthesia. The activity of pseudocholinesterase in the serum is low and its substrate behavior is atypical. In the absence of the relaxant, the homozygote is at no known disadvantage. [provided by RefSeq]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for BCHE    BCHE: Esterase with broad substrate specificity. Contributes to the inactivation of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Can degrade neurotoxic organophosphate esters. Defects in BCHE are the cause of butyrylcholinesterase deficiency (BChE deficiency). BChE deficiency is a metabolic disorder characterized by prolonged apnoea after the use of certain anesthetic drugs, including the muscle relaxants succinylcholine or mivacurium and other ester local anesthetics. The duration of the prolonged apnoea varies significantly depending on the extent of the enzyme deficiency. BChE deficiency is a multifactorial disorder. The hereditary condition is transmitted as an autosomal recessive trait. Belongs to the type-B carboxylesterase/lipase family.

Research Articles on BCHE    1. BChE reacts preferentially with P(R) enantiomer of V-agents and does not age, in complete contrast to AChE, which is selectively inhibited by the P(S) enantiomer and ages
