Biological Significance    The intracellular fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) belong to a multigene family with nearly twenty identifiedmembers. FABPs are divided into at least three distinct types, namely the hepatic-, intestin al- and cardiac-type. Theyform 14-15 kDa proteins and are thought to participate in the uptake, intracellular metabolism and/or transport oflong-chain fatty acids. They may also be responsible in the modulation of cell growth and proliferation. Intestin alfatty acid-binding protein 2 gene contains four exons and is an abundant cytosolic protein in small intestineepithelial cells.
Immunogen    FABP2 antibody was raised in mouse using a full length recombinant protein of human FABP2 (NP_000125) produced in HEK293T cells, as the immunogen.

Preparation and Storage    Store at 4 degree C for short term storage. Aliquot and store at -20 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes    Small volumes of anti-FABP2 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for FABP2    The intracellular fatty acid-binding proteins (FABPs) belong to a multigene family with nearly twenty identified members. FABPs are divided into at least three distinct types, namely the hepatic-, intestinal- and cardiac-type. They form 14-15 kDa proteins and are thought to participate in the uptake, intracellular metabolism and/or transport of long-chain fatty acids. They may also be responsible in the modulation of cell growth and proliferation. Intestinal fatty acid-binding protein 2 gene contains four exons and is an abundant cytosolic protein in small intestine epithelial cells. This gene has a polymorphism at codon 54 that identified an alanine-encoding allele and a threonine-encoding allele. Thr-54 protein is associated with increased fat oxidation and insulin resistance.  UniProt Comments for FABP2    FABP2: FABP are thought to play a role in the intracellular transport of long-chain fatty acids and their acyl-CoA esters. FABP2 is probably involved in triglyceride-rich lipoprotein synthesis. Binds saturated long-chain fatty acids with a high affinity, but binds with a lower affinity to unsaturated long- chain fatty acids. FABP2 may also help maintain energy homeostasis by functioning as a lipid sensor. Belongs to the calycin superfamily. Fatty-acid binding protein (FABP) family.

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q28-q31

Cellular Component: cytoplasm

Molecular Function: transporter activity; fatty acid binding

Biological Process: transport; digestion
