Related Product Information for anti-CDH6 antibody

Cadherins constitute a family of transmembrane glycoproteins involved in Ca2+-dependent cell-cell interactions. The members of this family are differentially expressed in various tissues. They function in the maintenance of tissue integrity and morphogenesis. The cadherins generally contain five extracellular repeats, a transmembrane domain and a cytoplasmic tail that binds to the Catenin family of cytoskeletal anchoring proteins which also function as signal transducers. The extracellular domains are responsible for the specificity of homophilic interactions between cells expressing the same cadherin. Cadherins are divided into type I and type II subgroups. Type I cadherins include epithelial cadherin (E-cadherin, cadherin-1 or uvomorulin), neural cadherin (N-cadherin or cadherin-2), placental cadherin (P-cadherin or cadherin-3) and retinal cadherin (R-cadherin or cadherin-4). Kidney cadherin (K-cadherin or cadherin-6) and osteoblast cadherin (OB-cadherin or cadherin-11) are type II cadherins. Cadherin-6 is expressed in the proximal tubule epithelium of the kidney from which most renal cell carcinomas are derived.

 Applications Tested/Suitable for anti-CDH6 antibody

Immunocytochemistry (IHC), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) (frozen), Immunohistochemistry (IHC) (paraffin), Western Blot (WB)

Application Notes for anti-CDH6 antibody    2B6 is suitable for immunoblotting, immunocytochemistry and immunohistochemistry on frozen sections when using a PBS buffer containing 0.1 mM CaCl2 and 0.1 mM MgCl2. 2B6 is also suitable for and immunohistochemistry on praraffin-embedded sections. Optimal antibody dilution should be determined by titRation; recommended range is 1:2 - 1:5 for immunohistochemistry with avidin-biotinylated Horseradish peroxidase complex (ABC) as detection reagent, and 1:2 - 1:25 for immunoblotting appliCations.

NCBI Summary for CDH6    This gene encodes a member of the cadherin superfamily. Cadherins are membrane glycoproteins that mediate homophilic cell-cell adhesion and play critical roles in cell differentiation and morphogenesis. The encoded protein is a type II cadherin and may play a role in kidney development as well as endometrium and placenta formation. Decreased expression of this gene may be associated with tumor growth and metastasis. [provided by RefSeq]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for CDH6    CDH6: Cadherins are calcium dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. Highly expressed in brain, cerebellum, and kidney. Lung, pancreas, and gastric mucosa show a weak expression. Also expressed in certain liver and kidney carcinomas. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Membrane protein, integral; Cell adhesion

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 5p13.3

Cellular Component: integral to membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: calcium ion binding

Biological Process: intercellular junction assembly and maintenance; homophilic cell adhesion; cell adhesion

Research Articles on CDH6    1. The chromatin modifications were determined at five PRC2 targets commonly underexpressed in multiple myeloma (CIITA, CXCL12, GATA2, CDH6 and ICSBP/IRF8). The selected genes were confirmed to be underexpressed in MM compared to normal plasma cells.
