Related Product Information for anti-KLK3 antibody

The human tissue kallikrein (KLK) gene family contains 15 members that play important roles in cancer. Notably, kallikrein-1, also known as tissue kallikrein, cleaves kininogen to release the vasoactive kinin peptide, bradykinin or lysyl-bradykinin. Kallikrein-3, called prostate specific antigen (PSA), is an established tumor marker that aids in the diagnosis, staging, and follow up of prostate cancer. Kallikrein-4 is specifically expressed in the prostate and over-expressed in prostate cancer. Kallikrein-5 is widely expressed but found at high levels in skin, breast, brain and testis; over-expression is an indicator of poor prognosis in ovarian cancer. Kallikrein-8 is expressed in the brain and is a novel marker of ovarian and cervical cancer.

NCBI Summary for KLK3    Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases having diverse physiological functions. Growing evidence suggests that many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and some have potential as novel cancer and other disease biomarkers. This gene is one of the fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located in a cluster on chromosome 19. Its protein product is a protease present in seminal plasma. It is thought to function normally in the liquefaction of seminal coagulum, presumably by hydrolysis of the high molecular mass seminal vesicle protein. Serum level of this protein, called PSA in the clinical setting, is useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of prostatic carcinoma. Alternate splicing of this gene generates several transcript variants encoding different isoforms. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for KLK3    PSA: Hydrolyzes semenogelin-1 thus leading to the liquefaction of the seminal coagulum. Forms heterodimer with SERPINA5. Inhibited by SERPINA5. Activity is strongly inhibited by Zn2+, 100 times more abundant in semen than in serum. This inhibition is relieved by exposure to semenogelins, which are avid zinc binders. Belongs to the peptidase S1 family. Kallikrein subfamily.
