Related Product Information for anti-LIF antibody

Based on its helical structure, LIF (Leukemia Inhibitory Factor) is considered a member of the Interleukin-6 family of cytokines. Functionally, it has been implicated in a many physiological processes including development, hematopoiesis, bone metabolism, and inflammation. Some cell types known to express LIF include activated T cells, monocytes, astrocytes, osteoblasts, keratinocytes, regenerating skeletal muscle, mast cells, and fibroblasts.

NCBI Summary for LIF    The protein encoded by this gene is a pleiotropic cytokine with roles in several different systems. It is involved in the induction of hematopoietic differentiation in normal and myeloid leukemia cells, induction of neuronal cell differentiation, regulator of mesenchymal to epithelial conversion during kidney development, and may also have a role in immune tolerance at the maternal-fetal interface. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Mar 2012]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for LIF    Function: LIF has the capacity to induce terminal differentiation in leukemic cells. Its activities include the induction of hematopoietic differentiation in normal and myeloid leukemia cells, the induction of neuronal cell differentiation, and the stimulation of acute-phase protein synthesis in hepatocytes.

Subcellular location: Secreted.

Pharmaceutical use: In phase II clinical trial. The drug is being developed by Amrad to assist embryo implantation in women who have failed to become pregnant despite assisted reproductive technologies (ART).

Sequence similarities: Belongs to the LIF/OSM family.

Research Articles on LIF    1. NPC patients had increased serum levels of LIF. Higher LIF levels correlated with local tumor recurrence. Xenograft mouse studies showed that LIF critically contributes to NPC tumor growth & radioresistance.
