Product Description specifically for anti-PTK7 antibody

Background: Receptor protein tyrosine kinases transduce extracellular signals across the cell membrane. A subgroup of these kinases lack detectable catalytic tyrosine kinase activity but retain roles in signal transduction. The protein encoded by this gene is a member of this subgroup of tyrosine kinases and may function as a cell adhesion molecule. This gene is thought to be expressed in colon carcinomas but not in normal colon, and therefore may be a marker for or may be involved in tumor progression. Four transcript variants encoding four different isoforms have been found for this gene.Tissue specificity: Highly expressed in lung, liver, pancreas, kidney, placenta and melanocytes. Weakly expressed in thyroid gland, ovary, brain, heart and skeletal muscle. Also expressed in erythroleukemia cells. But not expressed in colon.

NCBI Summary for PTK7    This gene encodes a member of the receptor protein tyrosine kinase family of proteins that transduce extracellular signals across the cell membrane. The encoded protein lacks detectable catalytic tyrosine kinase activity, is involved in the Wnt signaling pathway and plays a role in multiple cellular processes including polarity and adhesion. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding multiple isoforms have been observed for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2012]

UniProt Comments for PTK7    CCK4: Inactive tyrosine kinase involved in Wnt signaling pathway. Component of both the non-canonical (also known as the Wnt/planar cell polarity signaling) and the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. Functions in cell adhesion, cell migration, cell polarity, proliferation, actin cytoskeleton reorganization and apoptosis. Has a role in embryogenesis, epithelial tissue organization and angiogenesis. Belongs to the protein kinase superfamily. Tyr protein kinase family. Insulin receptor subfamily. 5 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Protein kinase, TK; Membrane protein, integral; EC; Protein kinase, tyrosine (receptor); Kinase, protein; TK group; CCK4 family

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 6p21.1-p12.2

Cellular Component: focal adhesion; integral to plasma membrane; intercellular junction

Molecular Function: protein binding; protein-tyrosine kinase activity; ATP binding

Biological Process: cell migration; peptidyl-tyrosine phosphorylation; wound healing; convergent extension; neural tube closure; actin cytoskeleton reorganization; establishment of epithelial cell polarity; establishment of planar polarity; Wnt receptor signaling pathway through beta-catenin; signal transduction; cell adhesion
