UniProt Comments for NR5A2
NR5A2: Binds to the sequence element 5'-AACGACCGACCTTGAG-3' of the enhancer II of hepatitis B virus genes, a critical cis-element of their expression and regulation. May be responsible for the liver-specific activity of enhancer II, probably in combination with other hepatocyte transcription factors. Key regulator of cholesterol 7-alpha-hydroxylase gene (CYP7A) expression in liver. May also contribute to the regulation of pancreas-specific genes and play important roles in embryonic development. Belongs to the nuclear hormone receptor family. NR5 subfamily. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
Protein type: Nuclear receptor; DNA-binding; Transcription factor
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1q32.1
Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; cytoplasm; nucleus
Molecular Function: RNA polymerase II transcription factor activity, enhancer binding; ligand-dependent nuclear receptor activity; protein binding; DNA binding; zinc ion binding; sequence-specific DNA binding; steroid hormone receptor activity; phospholipid binding; transcription factor activity
Biological Process: transcription initiation from RNA polymerase II promoter; positive regulation of viral genome replication; intracellular receptor-mediated signaling pathway; bile acid metabolic process; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; endocrine pancreas development; regulation of cell proliferation; cholesterol homeostasis; embryonic development; regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; homeostatic process; gene expression; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; steroid hormone mediated signaling
