Preparation and Storage    Storage: Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Store at 4 degre C for frequent use.
Aliquot and store at -20 degre C for 12 months.
Stability Test: The thermal stability is described by the loss rate. The loss rate was determined by accelerated thermal degradation test, that is, incubate the protein at 37 degre C for 48h, and no obvious degradation and precipitation were observed. The loss rate is less than 5% within the expiration date under appropriate storage condition.
Other Notes    Small volumes of anti-BPI antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for BPI    BPI: The cytotoxic action of BPI is limited to many species of Gram-negative bacteria; this specificity may be explained by a strong affinity of the very basic N-terminal half for the negatively charged lipopolysaccharides that are unique to the Gram-negative bacterial outer envelope. Has antibacterial activity against the Gram-nagative bacterium P.aeruginosa, this activity is inhibited by LPS from P.aeruginosa. Belongs to the BPI/LBP/Plunc superfamily. BPI/LBP family.

Protein type: Cell surface; Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 2|2 H1

Cellular Component: cytoplasm; extracellular region; extracellular space; membrane

Molecular Function: lipid binding; lipopolysaccharide binding

Biological Process: defense response to bacterium; defense response to Gram-negative bacterium; immune response; negative regulation of interleukin-6 production; negative regulation of interleukin-8 production; negative regulation of macrophage activation; negative regulation of tumor necrosis factor production

Research Articles on BPI    1. Data suggest that BPI is expressed in testis and epididymis (but not in seminal vesicles, prostate, or solidification glands); BPI expression in epididymis is up-regulated by testosterone; BPI may participate in process of sperm-oocyte interaction.
