Product Description specifically for anti-DARC antibody

Duffy blood group antigens, part of the Chemokine Receptor family, appear to be multimeric erythrocyte-membrane protein receptors composed of different subunits. A glycoprotein, GPD, is the major subunit of the protein complex. Other components include the Rh, PGM1, Fy, and PEPC proteins. Duffy antigen is expressed by red blood cells, by postcapillary venule endothelium throughout the body, except in the liver, and by Purkinje cells of the cerebellum. Duffy negativity (lack of Duffy expression in bone marrow) has been linked to protection against malaria. In erythrocytes, the chemokines interleukin-8 and melanoma growth stimulatory activity (MGSA) activate Duffy antigen.

NCBI Summary for DARC    The protein encoded by this gene is a glycosylated membrane protein and a non-specific receptor for several chemokines. The encoded protein is the receptor for the human malarial parasites Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium knowlesi. Polymorphisms in this gene are the basis of the Duffy blood group system. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for DARC    DARC: Non-specific receptor for many chemokines such as IL-8, GRO, RANTES, MCP-1 and TARC. It is also the receptor for the human malaria parasites Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium knowlesi. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor Duffy family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
