Biological Significance    G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), comprise a large protein family of transmembrane receptors that sense molecules outside the cell and activate inside signal transduction pathways and, ultimately, cellular responses. G protein-coupled receptors are found only in eukaryotes, including yeast, choanoflagellates, and animals. GPR44 has recently been found to belong to the prostanoid receptor family and named DP2, with this becoming the official IUPHAR nomenclature.
Biohazard Information    This product contains sodium azide as preservative. Although the amount of sodium azide is very small appropriate care must be taken when handling.
Immunogen    GPR44 antibody was raised in rabbit using a synthetic peptide conjugated to KLH as the immunogen.

Preparation and Storage    Store at 4 degree C for short term storage. Aliquot and store at -70 degree C for long term storage. Avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles.
Other Notes    Small volumes of anti-GPR44 antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for GPR44    This gene encodes a G-protein-coupled receptor that is preferentially expressed in CD4+ effector T helper 2 (Th2) cells. This protein is a prostaglandin D2 receptor that mediates the pro-inflammatory chemotaxis of eosinophils, basophils, and Th2 lymphocytes generated during allergic inflammation. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in the 3' UTR of this gene have been associated with asthma susceptibility.[provided by RefSeq, Mar 2011]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for GPR44    GPR44: Receptor for prostaglandin D2 (PGD2). Coupled to the G(i)-protein. Receptor activation may result in pertussis toxin- sensitive decreases in cAMP levels and Ca(2+) mobilization. PI3K signaling is also implicated in mediating PTGDR2 effects. PGD2 induced receptor internalization. CRTH2 internalization can be regulated by diverse kinases such as, PKC, PKA, ADRBK1/GRK2, GPRK5/GRK5 and GRK6. Receptor activation is responsible, at least in part, in immune regulation and allergic/inflammation responses. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family.

Protein type: Membrane protein, multi-pass; Receptor, GPCR; GPCR, family 1; Membrane protein, integral

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q12-q13.3

Cellular Component: neuron projection; integral to plasma membrane; plasma membrane

Molecular Function: G-protein coupled receptor activity; neuropeptide binding; prostaglandin F receptor activity; prostaglandin J receptor activity; prostaglandin D receptor activity

Research Articles on GPR44    1. Data indicate that in ulcerative colitis, DP2 receptor showed higher expression in neutrophils but lower in monocytes, and CRTH2 receptor was decreased in eosinophils, NK, and CD3(+) T cells but not in monocytes and CD3(+)/CD4(+) T cells.
