Product Description specifically for anti-GSK3b antibody

GSK-3 has been identified as a target of Akt that plays a role in the regulation of apoptosis in a variety of normal and transformed cell types including muscle cells, hepatocytes, neurons, and colon cancer cells. Akt-dependent phosphorylation of GSK-3 causes its inactivation, blocking downstream proapoptotic pathways, e.g., caspase and -catenin signaling. Akt-dependent regulation of GSK-3 activity contributes to the growth and hypertrophy of skeletal and cardiac muscle and inhibits apoptosis in vascular smooth muscle

NCBI Summary for GSK3b    The protein encoded by this gene is a serine-threonine kinase, belonging to the glycogen synthase kinase subfamily. It is involved in energy metabolism, neuronal cell development, and body pattern formation. Polymorphisms in this gene have been implicated in modifying risk of Parkinson disease, and studies in mice show that overexpression of this gene may be relevant to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Sep 2009]
