UniProt Comments for Irf3
IRF3: interferon regulatory factor 3, a member of the interferon regulatory transcription factor (IRF) family. IRF3 is found in an inactive cytoplasmic form that upon serine/threonine phosphorylation forms a complex with CREBBP. This complex translocates to the nucleus and activates the transcription of interferons alpha and beta, as well as other interferon-induced genes.
Protein type: DNA-binding; Transcription factor
Cellular Component: cytoplasm; nucleus
Molecular Function: identical protein binding; protein homodimerization activity
Biological Process: defense response to virus; interferon type I biosynthetic process; lipopolysaccharide-mediated signaling pathway; negative regulation of defense response to virus by host; negative regulation of interferon-beta biosynthetic process; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; positive regulation of cytokine secretion; positive regulation of I-kappaB kinase/NF-kappaB cascade; positive regulation of interferon-alpha production; positive regulation of interferon-beta production; response to bacterium; response to exogenous dsRNA; response to lipopolysaccharide
