Related Product Information for anti-KATII antibody

Kynurenine aminotransferase catalyzes the irreversible transamination of the L-tryptophan metabolite L-kynurenine to form kynurenic acid. Kynurenic acid is an antagonist at the glycine site of NMDA receptors and increased levels of kynurenic acid are thought to exert a neuroprotective action in some pathological conditions.

NCBI Summary for KATII    This gene encodes a protein that is highly similar to mouse and rat kynurenine aminotransferase II. The rat protein is a homodimer with two transaminase activities. One activity is the transamination of alpha-aminoadipic acid, a final step in the saccaropine pathway which is the major pathway for L-lysine catabolism. The other activity involves the transamination of kynurenine to produce kynurenine acid, the precursor of kynurenic acid which has neuroprotective properties. Several transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2013]

UniProt Comments for KATII    AADAT: Transaminase with broad substrate specificity. Has transaminase activity towards aminoadipate, kynurenine, methionine and glutamate. Shows activity also towards tryptophan, aspartate and hydroxykynurenine. Accepts a variety of oxo-acids as amino- group acceptors, with a preference for 2-oxoglutarate, 2- oxocaproic acid, phenylpyruvate and alpha-oxo-gamma-methiol butyric acid. Can also use glyoxylate as amino-group acceptor (in vitro). Belongs to the class-I pyridoxal-phosphate-dependent aminotransferase family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Amino Acid Metabolism - lysine degradation; Amino Acid Metabolism - lysine biosynthesis; Amino Acid Metabolism - tryptophan; EC 2.6.1.7; EC 2.6.1.39; Transferase; Mitochondrial

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q33

Cellular Component: mitochondrial matrix

Molecular Function: protein homodimerization activity; kynurenine-oxoglutarate transaminase activity; 2-aminoadipate transaminase activity; pyridoxal phosphate binding
