Product Description specifically for anti-MCP-1 antibody

MCP-1 is a member of the CC subgroup of the chemokine superfamily. It is produced by a variety of cell types including monocytes, lymphocytes, endothelial cells and fibroblasts after stimulation by any inflammatory mediator. MCP-1 acts as a potent chemoattractant and is thought to play an important role in the inflammatory response of blood monocytes, tissue macrophages and natural killer cells. Its expression has been documented in disorders characterized by mononuclear cell infiltrates, suggesting that it may contribute to the inflammatory component of diseases such as atherosclerosis, multiple sclerosis, or rheumatoid arthritis. Recombinant MCP-1 comprises a 76 amino acid fragment (24-99) corresponding to the mature MCP-1 protein and is expressed in E Coli with an amino-terminal hexahistidine tag. This product is for research use only and is not intended for diagnostic or therapeutic use.

NCBI Summary for MCP-1    This gene is one of several cytokine genes clustered on the q-arm of chromosome 17. Chemokines are a superfamily of secreted proteins involved in immunoregulatory and inflammatory processes. The superfamily is divided into four subfamilies based on the arrangement of N-terminal cysteine residues of the mature peptide. This chemokine is a member of the CC subfamily which is characterized by two adjacent cysteine residues. This cytokine displays chemotactic activity for monocytes and basophils but not for neutrophils or eosinophils. It has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis and atherosclerosis. It binds to chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR4. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2013]

UniProt Comments for MCP-1    CCL2: Chemotactic factor that attracts monocytes and basophils but not neutrophils or eosinophils. Augments monocyte anti-tumor activity. Has been implicated in the pathogenesis of diseases characterized by monocytic infiltrates, like psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or atherosclerosis. May be involved in the recruitment of monocytes into the arterial wall during the disease process of atherosclerosis. Monomer or homodimer; in equilibrium. Binds to CCR2 and CCR4. Is tethered on endothelial cells by glycosaminoglycan (GAG) side chains of proteoglycans. Belongs to the intercrine beta (chemokine CC) family.

Research Articles on MCP-1    1. CCL2 downregulation in South Asians may be an attempt to protect muscle against macrophage infiltration, and defects in fatty acid partitioning to muscle may lead to the disproportionate adiposity and adverse cardiometabolic profile in South Asians.
