Biological Significance    Persephin is a disulfide-linked homodimer neurotrophic factor structurally related to GDNF, Artemin, and Neurturin. These proteins belong to the cysteine-knot family of growth factors that assume stable dimeric structures. Persephin signals through a multicomponent receptor system, composed of RET and one of four GFRa (a1-a4) receptors. The GFRa4 was first identified in chicken and was later shown to be the preferential binding subunit for Persephin.
Immunogen    Persephin antibody was raised in rabbit using highly pure recombinant human persephin as the immunogen.

Preparation and Storage    Ships ambient or refrigerated. Upon receipt store at 4 degree C short term, -20 degree C long term.
Other Notes    Small volumes of anti-PSPN antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for PSPN    The protein encoded by this gene is a neurotrophic factor, belonging to the GDNF family. Neurotrophic factors are important for the proper development and maintenance of the nervous system. These factors promote neuronal survival and can prevent the neuronal degeneration associated with injury, toxin exposure, or neurodegenerative disease. The encoded protein has amino acid similarity to its other family members, glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor and neurturin. This gene product promotes the survival of ventral midbrain dopaminergic neurons in culture and prevents their degeneration after 6-hydroxydopamine treatment in vivo. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
