Related Product Information for anti-PTGFR antibody

Prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) is derived from PGH2 which in turn is synthesized from arachidonic acid through the cyclooxygenase pathway. It is produced in various tissues. It contracts smooth muscle and has been used to induce labor. It has a luteolytic effect and has been considered a luteolytic hormone.

NCBI Summary for PTGFR    The protein encoded by this gene is member of the G-protein coupled receptor family. This protein is a receptor for prostaglandin F2-alpha (PGF2-alpha), which is known to be a potent luteolytic agent, and may also be involved in modulating intraocular pressure and smooth muscle contraction in uterus. Knockout studies in mice suggest that the interaction of PGF2-alpha with this receptor may initiate parturition in ovarian luteal cells and thus induce luteolysis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for PTGFR    PTGFR: Receptor for prostaglandin F2-alpha (PGF2-alpha). The activity of this receptor is mediated by G proteins which activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system. Initiates luteolysis in the corpus luteum. Belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor 1 family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: GPCR, family 1; Membrane protein, integral; Receptor, GPCR; Membrane protein, multi-pass

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p31.1

Cellular Component: integral to plasma membrane; cytoplasm; plasma membrane; extracellular region

Molecular Function: prostaglandin F receptor activity

Biological Process: G-protein coupled receptor protein signaling pathway; positive regulation of cell proliferation; response to lipopolysaccharide; parturition; negative regulation of apoptosis
