NCBI Summary for p62
This gene encodes a member of the K homology domain-containing, RNA-binding, signal transduction-associated protein family. The encoded protein appears to have many functions and may be involved in a variety of cellular processes, including alternative splicing, cell cycle regulation, RNA 3'-end formation, tumorigenesis, and regulation of human immunodeficiency virus gene expression. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2012]
UniProt Comments for p62
KHDRBS1: a nuclear RNA-binding protein. May be involved in slicing and mRNA transport. Associates with src in mitosis. Binds to RNA via a heteronuclear ribonucleoprotein K homology domain. Exerts functionally separable effects on cell proliferation and survival, dependent on its ability to bind specifically to RNA.
Protein type: RNA-binding
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p32
Cellular Component: nucleoplasm; membrane; cytoplasm; nucleus
Molecular Function: identical protein binding; protein binding; SH3/SH2 adaptor activity; DNA binding; RNA binding; protein complex binding; poly(U) binding; SH3 domain binding; poly(A) binding
Biological Process: transcription, DNA-dependent; positive regulation of signal transduction; positive regulation of RNA export from nucleus; regulation of protein stability; signal transduction; positive regulation of translational initiation; cell proliferation; cell surface receptor linked signal transduction; regulation of RNA export from nucleus; negative regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; cell cycle arrest; G2/M transition of mitotic cell cycle; mRNA processing
