Principle of the Assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for BNIP3L has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any BNIP3L present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for BNIP3L is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of BNIP3L bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

This gene is a member of the BCL2/adenovirus E1B 19 kd-interacting protein (BNIP) family. It interacts with the E1B 19 kDa protein, which protects cells from virally-induced cell death. The encoded protein also interacts with E1B 19 kDa-like sequences of BCL2, another apoptotic protector. This protein counteracts the apoptotic inducer BNIP3 and may play a role in tumor suppression.
