Searchable Terms for DEFalpha5 purchase    MBS027805 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate Sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Defensin Alpha 5, Paneth Cell Specific (DEFalpha5) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range of 31.2 pg/ml - 1000 pg/ml in biological research samples containing DEFalpha5, with an estimated sensitivity of 5.0pg/ml. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS027805 kit is based on DEFalpha5 antibody-DEFalpha5 antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect DEFalpha5 antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, DEFalpha5. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions such as Undiluted original Human body fluids, tissue homogenates, secretions or feces samples. This kit is NOT suitable for assaying non-biological sources of substances. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for DEFalpha5    Defensins are a family of microbicidal and cytotoxic peptides thought to be involved in host defense. They are abundant in the granules of neutrophils and also found in the epithelia of mucosal surfaces such as those of the intestine, respiratory tract, urinary tract, and vagina. Members of the defensin family are highly similar in protein sequence and distinguished by a conserved cysteine motif. Several of the alpha defensin genes appear to be clustered on chromosome 8. The protein encoded by this gene, defensin, alpha 5, is highly expressed in the secretory granules of Paneth cells of the ileum. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for DEFalpha5    DEFA5: Has antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Defensins are thought to kill microbes by permeabilizing their plasma membrane. All DEFA5 peptides exert antimicrobial activities, but their potency is affected by peptide processing. Belongs to the alpha-defensin family.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 8p23.1

Cellular Component: extracellular space; transport vesicle; Golgi lumen; extracellular region
