Searchable Terms for MGP purchase    MBS284250 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate Sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Matrix Gla (MGP) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing MGP. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS284250 kit is based on MGP antibody-MGP antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect MGP antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, MGP. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions such as Serum, Plasma, Other biological fluids. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

Related Product Information for MGP elisa kit

Principle of the Assay: This assay employs a two-site sandwich ELISA to quantitate MGP in samples. An antibody specific for MGP has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and anyMGP present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for MGP is added to the wells. After washing, Streptavidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of MGP bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

NCBI Summary for MGP    This gene encodes a member of the osteocalcin/matrix Gla family of proteins. The encoded vitamin K-dependent protein is secreted by chondrocytes and vascular smooth muscle cells, and functions as a physiological inhibitor of ectopic tissue calcification. Carboxylation status of the encoded protein is associated with calcification of the vasculature in human patients with cardiovascular disease and calcification of the synovial membranes in osteoarthritis patients. Mutations in this gene cause Keutel syndrome in human patients, which is characterized by abnormal cartilage calcification, peripheral pulmonary stenosis and facial hypoplasia. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2016]
Section Bar
UniProt Comments for MGP    MGP: Associates with the organic matrix of bone and cartilage. Thought to act as an inhibitor of bone formation. Defects in MGP are the cause of Keutel syndrome (KS). KS is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by abnormal cartilage calcification, peripheral pulmonary stenosis neural hearing loss and midfacial hypoplasia. Belongs to the osteocalcin/matrix Gla protein family.

Protein type: Extracellular matrix; Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 12p12.3

Cellular Component: extracellular exosome; extracellular matrix; proteinaceous extracellular matrix

Molecular Function: calcium ion binding; extracellular matrix structural constituent; protein binding; structural constituent of bone

Biological Process: cartilage condensation; cell differentiation; ossification; regulation of bone mineralization

Disease: Keutel Syndrome

Research Articles on MGP    1. Our results indicate that the association between the matrix Gla protein variant and increased risk for hand Osteoarthritis is caused by a lower expression of matrix Gla protein, which may increase the burden of hand Osteoarthritis by decreased inhibition of cartilage calcification.
