Product Note    Our ELISA assays are dynamic research tools and sometimes they may be updated and improved. If the format of this assay is important to you then please contact our technical support team with a presales inquiry before placing an order. We will confirm the current details of the assay.
Other Notes    Small volumes of TECTa elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.
Searchable Terms for TECTa purchase    MBS9313028 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Tectorin Alpha (TECTa) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range in biological research samples containing TECTa. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS9313028 kit is based on TECTa antibody-TECTa antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect TECTa antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, TECTa. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for TECTa    The tectorial membrane is an extracellular matrix of the inner ear that contacts the stereocilia bundles of specialized sensory hair cells. Sound induces movement of these hair cells relative to the tectorial membrane, deflects the stereocilia, and leads to fluctuations in hair-cell membrane potential, transducing sound into electrical signals. Alpha-tectorin is one of the major noncollagenous components of the tectorial membrane. Mutations in the TECTA gene have been shown to be responsible for autosomal dominant nonsyndromic hearing impairment and a recessive form of sensorineural pre-lingual non-syndromic deafness. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

UniProt Comments for TECTa    TECTA: One of the major non-collagenous components of the tectorial membrane. The tectorial membrane is an extracellular matrix of the inner ear that covers the neuroepithelium of the cochlea and contacts the stereocilia bundles of specialized sensory hair cells. Sound induces movement of these hair cells relative to the tectorial membrane, deflects the stereocilia and leads to fluctuations in hair-cell membrane potential, transducing sound into electrical signals. Defects in TECTA are the cause of deafness autosomal dominant type 12 (DFNA12); also known as DFNA8. DFNA12 is a form of sensorineural hearing loss. Sensorineural deafness results from damage to the neural receptors of the inner ear, the nerve pathways to the brain, or the area of the brain that receives sound information. Defects in TECTA are the cause of deafness autosomal recessive type 21 (DFNB21).

Protein type: Membrane protein, GPI anchor; Extracellular matrix

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 11q22-q24

Cellular Component: proteinaceous extracellular matrix; plasma membrane

Biological Process: sensory perception of sound; cell-matrix adhesion

Disease: Deafness, Autosomal Dominant 12; Deafness, Autosomal Recessive 21

Research Articles on TECTa    1. we have reported the prevalence of TECTA mutations in Japanese autosomal dominant nonsyndromic hearing loss (ADNSHL) patients detected by genetic screening, and confirmed the genotype-phenotype correlations.
