Searchable Terms for DBP purchase    MBS021936 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate Sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the Vitamin D Binding Protein (DBP) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range of 31.2 ug/ml - 1000 ug/ml in biological research samples containing DBP, with an estimated sensitivity of 5.0 ug/ml. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS021936 kit is based on DBP antibody-DBP antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect DBP antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, DBP. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions such as Human body fluids, tissue homogenates, secretions or feces samples. This kit is NOT suitable for assaying non-biological sources of substances. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for DBP    The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the albumin gene family. It is a multifunctional protein found in plasma, ascitic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid and on the surface of many cell types. It binds to vitamin D and its plasma metabolites and transports them to target tissues. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.[provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]

UniProt Comments for DBP    GC: Multifunctional protein found in plasma, ascitic fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine and on the surface of many cell types. In plasma, it carries the vitamin D sterols and prevents polymerization of actin by binding its monomers. DBP associates with membrane-bound immunoglobulin on the surface of B-lymphocytes and with IgG Fc receptor on the membranes of T-lymphocytes. Belongs to the ALB/AFP/VDB family. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.

Protein type: Secreted; Secreted, signal peptide

Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 4q12-q13

Cellular Component: extracellular space; lysosomal lumen; extracellular region; cytosol

Molecular Function: vitamin D binding; actin binding; vitamin transporter activity

Biological Process: steroid metabolic process; vitamin transport; vitamin D metabolic process

Disease: Graves Disease, Susceptibility To, 1

Research Articles on DBP    1. Data suggest that plasma VDBP is reduced in subjects with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC; in Taiwanese subjects with at least 5-year history of betel nut chewing) as compared to normal subjects; thus, VDBP has potential as biomarker in OSCC.
