   Principle of the assay: This assay employs the quantitative sandwich enzyme immunoassay technique. Antibody specific for GFER has been pre-coated onto a microplate. Standards and samples are pipetted into the wells and any GFER present is bound by the immobilized antibody. After removing any unbound substances, a biotin-conjugated antibody specific for GFER is added to the wells. After washing, avidin conjugated Horseradish Peroxidase (HRP) is added to the wells. Following a wash to remove any unbound avidin-enzyme reagent, a substrate solution is added to the wells and color develops in proportion to the amount of GFER bound in the initial step. The color development is stopped and the intensity of the color is measured.

 NCBI Summary for GFER    The hepatotrophic factor designated augmenter of liver regeneration (ALR) is thought to be one of the factors responsible for the extraordinary regenerative capacity of mammalian liver. It has also been called hepatic regenerative stimulation substance (HSS). The gene resides on chromosome 16 in the interval containing the locus for polycystic kidney disease (PKD1). The putative gene product is 42% similar to the scERV1 protein of yeast. The yeast scERV1 gene had been found to be essential for oxidative phosphorylation, the maintenance of mitochondrial genomes, and the cell division cycle. The human gene is both the structural and functional homolog of the yeast scERV1 gene. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
