Other Notes    Small volumes of SPTB elisa kit vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.
Searchable Terms for SPTB purchase    MBS9335867 is a ready-to-use microwell, strip plate Quantitative Sandwich ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) Kit for analyzing the presence of the spectrin, beta, erythrocytic (SPTB) ELISA Kit target analytes in biological samples. The concentration gradients of the kit standards or positive controls render a theoretical kit detection range of 3.12ng/ml-100ng/ml in biological research samples containing SPTB, with an estimated sensitivity of 1.0ng/ml. The ELISA analytical biochemical technique of the MBS9335867 kit is based on SPTB antibody-SPTB antigen interactions (immunosorbency) and an HRP colorimetric detection system to detect SPTB antigen targets in samples. The ELISA Kit is designed to detect native, not recombinant, SPTB. Appropriate sample types may include undiluted body fluids and/or tissue homogenates, secretions such as Body fluids, tissue homogenates, secretions or feces samples. Quality control assays assessing reproducibility identified the intra-assay CV (%) and inter-assay CV(%).

NCBI Summary for SPTB    This locus encodes a member of the spectrin gene family. Spectrin proteins, along with ankyrin, play a role in cell membrane organization and stability. The protein encoded by this locus functions in stability of erythrocyte membranes, and mutations in this gene have been associated with spherocytosis type 2, hereditary elliptocytosis, and neonatal hemolytic anemia. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Nov 2009]

UniProt Comments for SPTB    SPTB1: Spectrin is the major constituent of the cytoskeletal network underlying the erythrocyte plasma membrane. It associates with band 4.1 and actin to form the cytoskeletal superstructure of the erythrocyte plasma membrane. Defects in SPTB are the cause of elliptocytosis type 3 (EL3). EL3 is a Rhesus-unlinked form of hereditary elliptocytosis, a genetically heterogeneous, autosomal dominant hematologic disorder. It is characterized by variable hemolytic anemia and elliptical or oval red cell shape. Defects in SPTB are the cause of spherocytosis type 2 (SPH2); also known as hereditary spherocytosis type 2 (HS2). Spherocytosis is a hematologic disorder leading to chronic hemolytic anemia and characterized by numerous abnormally shaped erythrocytes which are generally spheroidal. SPH2 is characterized by severe hemolytic anemia. Inheritance is autosomal dominant. Belongs to the spectrin family. 3 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing.
