TOP Related Product Information for Ulex europaeus lectin Ulex europaeus agglutinin I is a glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 63,000, although multimeric aggregates have been reported. UEA I has two subunits, one of about 31,000D and another of 32,000D. UEA I binds to many glycoproteins and glycolipids containing a-linked fucose residues, such as ABO blood group glycoconjugates. This lectin preferentially binds blood group O cells and has been used to determine secretor status. It has been established as an excellent marker for human endothelial cells. Agarose bound Ulex Europaeus Agglutinin I is prepared from affinity-purified lectin. Heat stable, cross-linked 4% agarose beads with a molecular weight exclusion limit of about 2x10e7 are used as the solid-phase matrix to which the lectin is covalently bound. The attachment of the lectin to the solid phase is carefully controlled in order to preserve the activity of the lectin as well as to minimize conformational changes of the bound lectin which might result in nonspecific ionic or hydrophobic interactions.
