Biological Significance    Cathepsin G is an enzymatic protein belonging to the peptidase or protease families. In humans, it is coded by the CTSG gene. This enzyme degrades collagen and proteoglycan and can also cause the release of angiotensin II from angiotensin I or angiotensinogen. It has been implicated in connective tissue diseases such as emphysema and rheumatoid arthritis.
Bioactivity    2-4 units/mg - One unit of activity is defined as the amount of enzyme that hydrolyzes one micromole of Suc-ala-ala-pro-phe-pNA (1mM) per minute at 25o C in 160 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.4, with 1.6 M NaCl.
 Contaminants    None detected by SDS-PAGE
 Grade    Immunogen
Biohazard Information    Donor samples were tested and found to be negative for HBsAg, anti-HCV, anti-HBc, and negative for anti-HIV 1 & 2. Nonetheless caution should be used when handling this material as there is a margin of error in all tests.
Additional Remarks    Biological activity = 2-4 Units/mg. 1 unit of activity is defined as the amount of enzyme that hydrolyzes 1 uM per minute.

Preparation and Storage    4 degree C shipping only. Upon receipt store at -20 degree C.
Other Notes    Small volumes of CTSG native protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

NCBI Summary for CTSG    The protein encoded by this gene, a member of the peptidase S1 protein family, is found in azurophil granules of neutrophilic polymorphonuclear leukocytes. The encoded protease has a specificity similar to that of chymotrypsin C, and may participate in the killing and digestion of engulfed pathogens, and in connective tissue remodeling at sites of inflammation. In addition, the encoded protein is antimicrobial, with bacteriocidal activity against S. aureus and N. gonorrhoeae. Transcript variants utilizing alternative polyadenylation signals exist for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2014]
