NCBI Summary for SIVA1
This gene encodes a protein with an important role in the apoptotic (programmed cell death) pathway induced by the CD27 antigen, a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TFNR) superfamily. The CD27 antigen cytoplasmic tail binds to the N-terminus of this protein. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct proteins have been described. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]
UniProt Comments for SIVA1
Siva: a proapoptotic protein. Associates with CD27, a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor family. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described. Isoform 1 but not isoform 2 may induce TNFRSF7/CD27 mediated apoptosis. Isoform 1 inhibits Bcl-xL anti-apoptotic activity.
Protein type: Apoptosis
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 14q32.33
Cellular Component: cytoplasm; mitochondrion; nucleoplasm
Molecular Function: CD27 receptor binding; metal ion binding; protein binding; viral receptor activity; zinc ion binding
Biological Process: activated T cell apoptosis; entry of virus into host cell; inhibition of NF-kappaB transcription factor
